Renewable Energy: A Sustainable Future

In today’s world, the issue of climate change is becoming more and more serious. As the demand for energy and resources is increasing daily, its impact on the environment is also becoming a concern. This is not sustainable and will become a big concern. That is why it is important to learn about renewable energy sources and replace them with non-renewable energy sources as soon as possible.

What is renewable energy?

Renewable sources of energy are the sources that do not deplete once used. These sources of energy are usually derived from inexhaustible natural sources. Natural resources such as water, wind, sunlight, and nuclear energy are examples of renewable energy. These resources do not get exhausted with time and can be used without damaging the environment. Whereas non-renewable resources get depleted with time and cause a lot of damage to the environment. That is why it is important that we use more and more renewable energy and reduce our dependence on non-renewable resources as much as possible.

Examples of renewable energy:

Some types of renewable energy are:

1. Solar Energy:

Solar energy can emerge as one of the leading types of renewable energies in the future. As the cost of installing a solar panel is becoming more and more affordable with time, the prospect of adopting solar energy is also increasing. Solar panels work by trapping the sunlight and converting it into electrical energy. As the technology is getting better, the efficiency and durability of this type of renewable energy is improving significantly.

2. Wind Energy:

The next popular type of renewable energy is wind energy. It works by converting the kinetic energy of winds into electrical energy with the help of turbines. The kinetic energy of winds helps rotate the wind rotors. This helps in converting the kinetic energy into rotational energy and that in turn gets converted into electrical energy.

3. Geothermal Energy:

Geothermal energy is the heat energy generated inside the earth. It is used by digging the surface of the earth to obtain a natural source of heat and steam from the earth. This energy is used for generating electricity. In most places, geothermal energy is also used as hot springs.

4. Biomass Energy:

Biomass energy is generated by organic matter such as plants and animals. It is an economical and clean source of energy. This type of energy has a huge potential as a sustainable source of energy in the future.

5. Tidal Energy:

The tides of the oceans help in generating tidal energy. The kinetic energy of the tides rotate the turbine and produce electrical energy.

Benefits of renewable energy

There are many benefits to renewable energy that make them the best alternative to non-renewable energy. Some of these benefits are as follows:

1. Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions:

The moment we start using renewable sources of energy extensively, we will record lesser and lesser emissions of greenhouse gases. The main emitters of greenhouse gases are non-renewable energies like coal and petroleum. Greenhouse gas emissions are responsible for causing climate change which is a huge environmental problem now.

2. Improved Air Quality and Better Public Health:

By using renewable sources of energy we reduce the emission of the greenhouse gases which leads to less air pollution. The overall better quality of air improves the health of all living organisms. And the overall health and quality of life of humans and animals gets better.

3. Affordable energy:

Switching to renewable energy will make access to energy more affordable. Because the cost of generating energy from renewable sources is low and its availability is very high. This makes the cost of using them very affordable.

4. Inexhaustible Energy:

As the name suggests, renewable sources of energy are inexhaustible. It do not depletes with every use. That is why it is a good option for sustainable future.

5. Widespread Access to Energy:

Renewable energy provides access to energy to all parts of the world. As these depend on a specific land of the world like in the case of non-renewable sources of energy, countries do not have to depend on other countries for their energy needs.

6. Booming Industry:

As the world is becoming more conscious of the effects of non-renewable sources of energy on the environment, big companies and corporations along with regular citizens are trying to make some changes. That is why the industries related to renewable sources of energy are booming. The research on environmental science and technology is becoming a major subject leading to more and more innovation and development in the sustainable energy sector.

Challenges

No doubt there will be a lot of challenges while developing a sustainable energy future.  Challenges such as lack of capital and resources to carry out large-scale installations of renewable energy plants create resistance to the adoption of renewable energy infrastructures.

Conclusion:

We all dream of a sustainable future, a future where we are no longer pollute the air and our other co-habitants. We want to create a future where we are no longer dependent on the non-renewable energy sources of our consumption. A future where we utilize energy that does not get depleted and become unavailable to our future generations. We want to create a future with renewable energy. A type of energy source that gets replenished and does not harm the environment is going to be the future of the earth of the energy industry.

FAQ

1. What is sustainable development?

Sustainable development is the use of resources for development in a way that while our need are met, we do not compromise the needs of future generations. We use resources in a way that there are still plenty of resources left for future generations.

2. What is biomass energy?

Biomass energy is the energy generated using organic matter like plants, animals or algae.

3. Why do we say that non-renewable sources of energy are harmful to the environment?

Non-renewable energy such as coal or petroleum when burnt emits a large volume of greenhouse gases. This is a huge contributor to the air pollution and climate changes. These are a big concern for our future, and that is why we are trying to switch to renewable sources of energy.
