Before we talk about what we are going to explore next in the universe, let’s briefly talk about why we even want to explore. The reason behind space exploration is not just our curiosity to know about the vast universe but there are many other reasons. Though curiosity is the main reason, some other reasons are about advancing our scientific knowledge, extracting potential resources, interstellar travel, and so on.

Space exploration helped us understand the universe in many unprecedented ways. As we tried to learn more about outer space, we came to know much more about our universe and in turn ourselves. Space exploration helped us advance our scientific knowledge in terms of what we have found about our universe so far including discovering gravitation, black holes, an expanding universe, a time-space curve, and so on.

Space technology has led to many new inventions that helped improve the security on earth. For example, having satellites helped us get updates about natural disasters before it happens.
Satellites continuously collect data about climatic conditions that can be used to predict natural disasters. These timely updates are valuable as even seconds matter in times of crisis. That is why space exploration is important as it can majorly help in improving the security of people on earth. Humans have been thinking about living on another planet for centuries. Thinking about what it would be like to walk on a foreign planet has led to many research and developments.
After conducting research and observations for so many years it is found that, out of eight planets in our solar system, the one planet that can be suitable for living for humans is Mars. The climate on Mars is cold but not too cold compared to other planets. By advancing our space technology we can build technologies that can help make Mars more habitable.
Asteroid mining:
Another goal of space exploration is to mine other planets and asteroids to extract valuable resources and metals. It is still a concept that still needs a long time to execute but scientists and researchers are continuously putting efforts into developing advanced technologies to achieve this goal.
Interstellar travel:
Another dream of humans is to advance scientific knowledge and technology for interstellar traveling. Interstellar travel is still a concept that does not seem practical at the moment. Due to the huge distance (in lightyears) between the stars, it is very difficult to travel from one star to another in a human lifetime. But as our scientific knowledge advances, we can expect to work on interstellar travel technology.
Challenges:
As we have discussed some of the goals of space exploration in the future, we need to be aware of the challenges as well. We as curious beings want to explore and understand the universe as much as can, but it comes with many challenges and obstacles. The biggest challenges include cost, limited scientific knowledge, and time.
The cost of doing things like building infrastructure on Mars, and building spaceships and rockets for interstellar travel and research is very high. It takes a lot of resources and energy to execute work at such a huge level.
Also, we still have to understand more and improve our scientific knowledge to achieve what we desire. Our present knowledge of astronomy, astrophysics, and the universe though being advanced is still not enough. We need to work more on work more research and development.
And another thing that is a challenge for us is time. As the stars and planets are lightyears far apart it is a big challenge to visit them. Even space rovers will take years to reach distant locations.
